5 Simple Hacks To Become A Morning Person
Early to bed
Early to rise
Makes a man
Remember this poem from our childhood? It didn’t make much sense when we were little, but today, every word of this poem is like a secret ingredient to having a successful life or a life we see in our head for ourselves.
They say, “there are two types of people in this world, early birds and night owls”. And most of us fall into the latter category. But how is that even possible? Why there are so many night owls and a few morning persons? It doesn’t make sense. It will in a while. Keep reading.
Ask any successful person who has access to everything this world has to offer, they all will tell you that they were an early riser. They didn’t believe in snooze off. They woke up at 4 AM or 5 AM every single day of their lives and still continue to do so.
So, this article is about how I was able to get into this “5 AM Club.” I thought that I wasn’t a morning person, but here I am waking up at 5 AM every day. Here’s how you can join the club (only if you want to)
1. Talk To The Pillow
It might sound childish and funny to you, but talking to your pillow a night before actually helps. If you have made up your mind that you are going to wake up early in the morning then I’ll suggest that you talk to your pillow a night before. Tell your pillow how much you want to make this happen and why you want to do it. Believe me, the next morning when you will hear your alarm, your pillow would be the first one to shake you off the bed. So, just lie down on your bed with a pillow under your head and tell it everything. Basically, it's just a self-motivating talk.
2. On Your Feet
Make sure that you don’t use your phone 30 minutes prior to going to bed (here’s how you can take a break from your phone). Don’t sleep with your phone next to you. Keep it on the table or anywhere in the room, just away from you. So, the next morning when the alarm goes off, you should be on your feet. Don’t snooze the alarm because that would be the first thought that will pop up into your head. All you have to do is keep moving. Stay on your feet. Leaving your bed was the hardest part and you already did that.
3. Let’s Begin Now
Ah! So, you didn’t snooze the alarm. Very good. But, what now? While brushing your teeth you might think or this thought might come into your head, “What am I going to do next?”
When I was in my 10th standard I had a home tutor. He asked me, “Anirudha what do you like to do the most? What is that one thing that you want to do daily and which makes you really happy and good about yourself?” I thought for a while because there were many, but there was this one thing that made me really happy, video games! I said, “Sir, I like to play video games. I can play it all day without giving a sweat. ” He laughed and said, “it’s decided then. From now onwards, you will play video games for exactly one hour before I come to teach you. I will convey this to your parents as well. Nobody will disturb you. You are allowed to play as much you want for exactly one hour.”
I was so happy. How cool is he? I thought.
So, every day I played the video game for exactly one hour. I made sure that I don’t play even a minute extra. I did this for my teacher because of him this was first time I was playing video games and there was no one to point me. The moment my teacher used to arrive I used to be all happy and in a good mood. He could see that. I hated maths but I started to enjoy it. I never got a chance to ask him why he made me play video games before the class, but I found out the reason.
The reason I am telling you about this incident is that you are in the “what next?” zone. So, if you don’t know how to go on with your day, I will say, do it by doing one thing you like the most. After getting up, just start doing what you like or enjoy the most. When you start your day by doing that one thing you like the most, waking up at 5 AM won’t feel like much of a task. You will always have something to look forward to the night before.
4. Motivate Yourself
See, to be honest, waking up early was very hard for me. But, I really wanted to do it. It’s always about what you really want for yourself. If your heart is in the right place you are going to do it otherwise it would just be a ‘thing’ you are just doing.
Think about it, just by waking up early in the morning you can put things to your advantage. Waking up at 5 am gives you so much extra time where you can work on yourself every day. And in no time, you are so much ahead in life. You are now disciplined, more confident, more energetic, and more positive.
“99% of the people on this planet earth are not willing to do what it takes to make their dream come true.”
Now, be that 1%.
5. That’s It!
I have nothing else to say to you. My experience of waking up early has been great and still is. I feel more confident about myself. I am more positive. After a very long time, I can actually say that I am in charge of my own life.
They say it takes 21 days to build any new habit. I say, just do it for 7 days straight (*conditions apply) and the 8th day your body will start cooperating with you by itself.
*conditions: Do you really want to do it? Then you know what is needed to be done.
